Trip to Ecuador

 Day 5 - Saturday, November 11, 2023 - Quito Veteran's Day

Went to breakfast at 7:30 and met Patricia and Susan at 8:15 to get a cab to the Teleferico. Danette joined us and we were able to just walk on when we got to the cable car. It was a beautiful view of Quito and the surrounding area at over 10,000+ feet. We walked around up top and could tell the thin air was affecting us. After our cable return to downtown Quito, we took a cab to Capilla del Hombre and Casa Guaysamin. Oswaldo was an Ecuadorian artist who collected Pre-Colombian, Colonial and other Ecuadorian art. He rubbed elbows with the likes of Castro, Mao, and Kruschev. He donated his house and his whole collection to his country. From there we found our way to Miskay Restaurant. This was another recommendation from our guide Alex. There we had some traditional Ecuadorian food - Colada morada (like a smoothie), ceviche with lime (this is how I like my ceviche), Ron had chicken with risotto (which he said was the best he had ever had) and I had chicken with potatoes, veggies, carrots, peppers, squash etc. Then we walked to the Artisanal Market and we did some more shopping. It was time to pack up and get ready to leave for the Galapagos tomorrow.

Danette, Susan and Patricia - we had a small group (16) of
very friendly people in our group
