Trip to Santa Fe

Day 30  Tuesday, February 28, 2023

Before we got on the road today we received an invite to meet the woman from whom we rented the casita. Flora Leyba is a little bit of a woman who is 92 years old and a real spitfire. She told us about her past and her many travels. She has been to all 7 continents and went skydiving for her 87th birthday. We enjoyed speaking with her. Then we went to downtown Santa Fe. We did some window shopping before going to the Upper Crust for pizza. It was crowded with a mariachi band that was going to play across the street for the opening of the legislative session. From there we went to the Palace of Governors and to Cuatro Centennial Park near the Cathedral. After it was on to Tomasita's to check out the train for tomorrow (it is located right next to the train station) and for their dessert Sopapilla (a sopapilla stuffed with ice cream, and smothered with strawberries and whipped cream. Delicioso!

Trip to Santa Fe

Day 29  Monday, February 27, 2023

First stop today was Santa Fe Opera about 10 miles from the casita. Unfortunately it was closed despite the fact that the website said they were open 9 - 5. Then it was on to Espanola where we didn't fare any better. The museum and Bond house were closed but it was a pretty day for a ride. Next try was 20 miles away in Abiquiu. There we stopped at Abiquiu Inn an looked around and went to Bodes for hot chocolate and some cookies. We also bought a few things from their gift shop before stopping at an antique shop across the street. From there we visited St. Tomas the. Apostle church founded in 1888. Then we went to the library and got filled in on some of the local history. The librarian suggested we go to the Ghost Ranch. A place where Georgia O'Keefe had a cottage  and received some of her inspiration. Once again we were surrounded by beautiful scenery and picturesque mountains.

Trip to Santa Fe

Day 28 Sunday, February 26, 2023

Went to Mass yesterday so it was another lazy day. There were high winds and a bit of snow with storm warnings. Since we had a later night yesterday we slept in, read, paid bills etc. Tomorrow we'll be back on the road again.

Triip to Santa Fe

Day 27  Saturday, February 25, 2023

It was a lazy Saturday. We slept in and waited until after noon to go into Santa Fe. We headed to Canyon Road, a mile of high end, exclusive, expensive galleries and jewelry shops. We went in some just to look and enjoyed the numerous sculpture gardens along the way. We stopped at a wine garden but had a hot chocolate and listened to their guitarist. At 3:00 we returned to our car and moved it to a parking garage across from the theater we were going to tonight. Mass at St. Francis Cathedral was at 4:00. The choir was amazing and the Mass was more like a concert. Little did we know that it would be a bilingual Mass - half in English half in Spanish but Ron said he didn't mind. The opening of Mass was interesting. The bulletin said "We open the Liturgy with the beat of the Native Ameican Drum, which reminds us of our heartbeat united with the heart of Christ." The drum reverberated throughout the church.  Dinner was at the Draft Station, a rooftop pizza place. Fom there it was on to the Lensic Theater to see Second City Swipe Right. It was a very entertaining show and we're always impressed by improv. Fun evening.
