Day 7 - Strasbourg - Friday, September 29, 2023
Breakfast
at 7:00 and out at 8:30 for a walking tour of Strasbourg. (now French) Since the city
center is a distance from the dock, we hopped on a bus. We discovered
that Strasbroug is a town of about 500,000 people that like many of the other
cities we visited had gone between French and German rule over the years - our
guide aptly called it a ping pong history. We saw the Palace, Orangerie- the
Central Park of Strasbourg designed by the gardener that did Versaille, the
European Institution, Council of Europe, the European Court of Human Rights, the
European Parliment, the Petit France. and the Cathedral. After our tour we took
a canal ride all around the city - the city center is an island. Then we had
lunch - crepes and tarte flambee - a thin Alsace pizza. We walked the city some
more and took the tram back to the ship. We enjoyed happy hour, listened to the
info. on France, the port talk and the disembarkment info. It was our farewell
dinner, and they didn't disappoint- turkey carpaccio, mushroom soup, grilled shrimp
and risotto, beef filet and baked Alaska- Yum.
