Day 6 - Friday, January 7, 2023 - Fes to Arfoud
Today we headed south and crossed the high
Atlas Mountains on our way to Arfoud. It was a long day on the bus. Our first
stop was Ifrane called the Switzerland of Morocco because of its altitude,
chalet houses and European feel. We had a mint tea and stretched our legs. The
next part of the drive took us through Berber country. The land is very rocky
and there were the " houses" or should I say tents of the semi
nomadic sheep herders that live here. The Berbers look and dress as if they are
from another age. We saw lots of donkeys and even monkeys at one spot along the
way. We stopped for lunch and Ron had a turkey "taco" which was more
like a panini and I had spaghetti bolognese. We continued our trip along the
Ziz Valley until we arrived at our hotel in the middle of nowhere. What a
surprise it was though. We were welcomed with music and belly dancers and
of course mint tea. Our rooms look like they were out of a movie set - very
exotic. Dinner was at the hotel with a lovely buffet and drinks and dessert. It
was a long day so time for a shower and bed.
